What?! The Union played and I missed?–A look back at the team’s Saturday of goals

Over the next few weeks I’ll probably begin every post like this: “Sorry!”

I hate that I can’t cover the pre-season in depth, but grad student responsibilities seem to interfere with keeping a website up-to-date.  And I did have something that sounded like a commitment for a match report from the game, but that disappeared into the ether.

So it’s left to me to try to piece together what happened from twitter and the Union’s official site. Here we go:

More than a good day in Philadelphia

As the MLS Superdraft approached, most analysts were predicting a good draft day for the Philadelphia Union. The club owned the first pick in each of the draft’s four rounds, and the year’s class of college players and US youth internationals was widely considered to be one of the best in years, maybe ever. The club could expect to pick two, maybe even three top prospects. On the internet–on blogs and facebook and the ever-noisy twitterverse–there was a palpable excitment among Union fans as the day approached.
