Quick update

Yesterday’s exhibition match against UNC Wilmington was a “a closed training session” according to the Union’s official twitter account. A recap on the Union’s official site should be coming soon. Stay tuned.

The thing I hate the most is that the club house is talking about selling the game and so forth but refuse to let the fans into what is going on. I remember when I was watching the Seattle Sounders site that the club actually had one paid writer/reporter that would blog about practices. Injuries, the tempo, the overall feel type of stuff and then would have an interview with a player. A random interview with some quirky questions but it made you feel a connection with the team and the players. It isn’t to early for such things, it is actually a little late.

Pay for a writer that would send works to the paper, videos online, pictures and you can filter any sensitive material while giving the fans tons to look forward to.

the writer for Seattle even did live blogs during the little skirmishes.(unc type of games) Who scored, any injuries, how the defense looked overall, who won. it was great for a fan who wanted to see how a team came together.

Yeah, things can be a little secretive on the Union’s end. I’ve tried on multiple occasions to get information bout trialists but no dice–not even a confirmation of something that all the fans are pretty certain about.

Andy Jasner does a good job with a his press releases at philadelphiaunion.com, but they are few and far between and rarely give detail on how the guys are playing.

I think the secrecy is Nowak’s decision. He doesn’t want other teams to have any idea what he’s up to–and doesn’t want to tip them off about any additional signings. It’s not as much fun for the fans but, then again, it’s good to have a coach that takes things so seriously.

My guess is, though, that the Union twitter account will do live updates of the Feb. 14th match. It is open to the public, after all.

Philly won 4-0 over High Point University, the Wilmington game was canceled or something.
